John D. Montgomery papers 1922-1925

These papers of Kansas journalist and political leader John D. Montgomery consist of clippings, correspondence, and photographs from his student years at the University of Kansas, where he was business manager of the University's student newspaper and captain of the boxing team. Included are photographs of Montgomery's boxing coach, Tommy Dixon, and a photograph of the "Ku Ku Klan," a 1920s pep club, of which Montgomery was not a member.

John D. Montgomery was born June 9, 1903 at Junction City, Kansas. He received a bachelor's degree in journalism from the University of Kansas in 1925. In 1931, he married University of Kansas graduate and journalist Mary Elizabeth Kennedy.
